We’ve had a record setting day here at the food shelf, with three of our partners donating over 200 lbs. in fresh, local produce. This morning on my way to work, I picked up a donation of kale, swiss chard, and other greens from Celeste’s Dream Community Garden. A ministry of the Sister’s of St. Joseph, Celeste’s Dream meets on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 pm to practice organic growing methods and build community in their community garden. They are very generous with the harvest and donate to HQB, Urban Baby, and other nonprofits on a weekly basis.
Over lunch, I headed over to Aldrich Arena farmer’s market in Maplewood. The Aldrich farmers donated a combined total of 128 lbs. of zucchini, broccoli, potatoes, cabbage, and other delicious vegetables. I could barely fit it all in my car!
As we were unloading the produce back at the food shelf, a driver from Featherstone Farm dropped by with a donation of cauliflower, baby cucumbers, carrots, squash, corn, potatoes and more.
By 1 this afternoon, our free table looked like this:
Thank you to everyone who donated today! Our shelves are nearly bare right now, so the timing couldn’t have been better.
