Back-to-School Getdown 2025

Get ready to kick off the 2025–2026 school year with Hallie Q. Brown Community Center’s annual Back-to-School Getdown! This free, family-friendly event will take place on Friday, August 22nd from 1–4 PM and is open to all families in the community.
If you are looking to register a child for a free backpack filled with school supplies, you’ve come to the right place. Families can sign up their children through Friday, August 15th, 2025. You must be the child’s legal guardian to register them, and you’ll need to provide the child’s name, gender, age, and grade level for the 2025–2026 school year.
If another adult will be picking up supplies on your behalf, arrangements must be made in advance with our Marketing and Events Manager, Sydney Colquitt, no later than Wednesday, August 20th.
In addition to backpacks and supplies, the event will feature:
- Fun activities for all ages
- Nail painting
- On-site hair services
- And much more!

Looking to Donate?
We are collecting school supplies through Friday, August 15th. All supplies for students of any age are welcome and appreciated. Items especially needed include:
- Scientific calculators (for middle and high school students)
- Headphones (for students of all ages)
- Hand Sanitizer
- Clorox Wipes
- Kleenex
- Deodorant
- Socks

Looking to Volunteer?
We’re calling on our community to help make this event extra special!
We are especially looking for licensed barbers and hairstylists who are willing to donate their time and talent to help our students look and feel their best for the start of the school year.
We are also in need of general volunteers to assist with:
- Event setup and cleanup
- Backpack distribution
- Nail painting for students
- Face painting
- Licensed hair braiders and barbers
