If the impending government shutdown is the bad news, here is some good news. Beginning on Monday, June 20th, the USDA-funded summer food service program will begin offering free meals to kids (18 and under) at more than 75 locations in St. Paul. The program runs through August 26th and will offer healthy choices such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Hallie Q. Brown Community Center is among the participating locations. Children and their parents are encouraged to stop by the Canteen for breakfast on weekdays between 8:30 and 9:30 am. Additionally, Parks and Rec will be offering lunch from 12-1 and a snack from 4:15-4:45 in the multipurpose room downstairs. All kids are welcome.
