Experience Corps is a proven, award-winning program that brings older adult volunteers into schools and community organizations to help kindergarten through 3rd Grade students become better readers. Volunteers and children come together to practice the literacy and relationship-building skills that help students feel success and belonging while at school.
Currently, 67% of St. Paul 3rd Graders are not reading at grade level. Experience Corps Tutors directly address this need by providing one-on-one reading tutoring as well as a caring adult in each of their students’ lives.
You don’t have to be an expert to volunteer as a reading tutor. Our tutors receive extensive training and support throughout the school year and join a network of passionate community members. Volunteers participate in 25 hours of training over the course of the school year (pre-service training in September and monthly group trainings or site meetings) and commit to a consistent, two afternoons per week tutoring schedule through the school year. For those able to make a 8-10 hour per week commitment, a stipend is available.
