Hallie Q. Brown Community Center maintains numerous partnerships with other organizations, which specialize in program areas and objectives complimentary to ours.
Our Early Learning Center benefits from partnerships with several other organizations including Resources for Child Caring and the Minnesota Department of Education and Quality Career Services which provide the center with foster grandparents that help out in the classroom as well as provide the children with grandparent-like love, warmth and guidance. Students from the Breck School in Minneapolis work with the children on special projects and students from St. Paul’s Harding High School looking towards careers in Early Childhood Development work with the children and do job-shadowing in the center.
The After School and Summer Enrichment program partners with such organizations as the Alan Page Scholars, Blacks in Criminal Justice, Central High School, Cretin Derham Hall High School, and the University of Minnesota Softball team, to expose participants to a variety of issues as well as social, educational and career opportunities.
The Hallie Q. Brown Foodshelf has developed a strong network of partnerships with numerous area churches, schools and businesses in an effort to address the increasing demand for emergency food services. This demand has increased significantly during the last few years. We average around 400-500 individuals and distributing 11,000 to 16,000 pounds of food per month in over 300 households. In the last two months we have served between 700-800 individuals a month and distributing 16,000-18,000 pounds of food to over 400 households.These partnerships and our collective efforts to address this need have been invaluable to our organization and the residents of Summit-University.
Other examples of affiliate organizations with which Hallie Q. Brown Community Center works are: The Pet Project, Ramsey Action Programs, Family Services, Inc., the Summit-University Planning Council, Rondo Avenue, Inc. St. Paul Department of Parks and Recreation, The Schubert Club’s Project Cheer, Penumbra Theatre Company, the Retired Mens Club and the Golden Agers are key partners which work together to improve the quality of life and services to people at the Martin Luther King Center.
